Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What kind of content rating does Concordia use?
A: All games are written to stay within a PG-13 rating, similar to what you’d see in most Star Trek series and films. Violence, language, and romance are allowed, but we keep it appropriate for a broad audience.

Q: How do I join?
A: Simply create an account, submit a character application, and once approved by the Game Manager, you’ll be welcomed aboard the USS Magellan.

Q: Is it really free?
A: Yes — joining and playing is 100% free, no strings attached. We do have a “Donate” button on our homepage for those who’d like to help cover server costs, but contributions are entirely optional and never required.

Q: Who assigns my position and rank?
A: The Game Manager (Captain of the Magellan) will work with you to find a role that fits both your interests and the ship’s needs. Starting ranks are usually Ensign or Lieutenant Junior Grade, with promotions earned through participation and contribution.

Q: How do missions work?
A: We have two ways to play:

  • Play-by-post: Write at your own pace on the website, contributing posts that move the story forward.
  • Live sessions: Once a week, we run a live, real-time mission on Discord where players can interact and help advance the plot together.

Q: How often do I need to post?
A: We encourage at least one post every 1–2 weeks to keep the story moving, but we know life can get busy. As long as you communicate with the group, we’ll work with your schedule.

Q: Can I play more than one character?
A: Each player has one main character. Non-player characters (NPCs) can be created and used to flesh out scenes, but the focus should remain on your primary role.

Q: Do I need to be a Star Trek expert to play?
A: Not at all! Whether you’ve seen every episode or just know the basics, we’ll help you get comfortable. If you love collaborative storytelling, you’ll fit right in.

Q: What happens if I want to leave the game?
A: Just let us know — no hard feelings. We’ll find a way to write your character out gracefully so the story continues smoothly.

Q: Is there a larger fleet story?
A: The USS Magellan is the flagship of Concordia Fleet. Right now, our focus is on her adventures, but as the community grows, we may expand to additional ships and interconnected missions.

Q: Do I need to wear a Starfleet uniform while I play?
A: Only if it helps you get into character! (But rest assured, pajamas are fully regulation for play-by-post.)

Q: Can my character have a pet targ / tribble / other alien critter?
A: Within reason, yes! Just keep it in line with the story and don’t let your tribble infestation derail the mission. (Unless the plot is a tribble infestation…)

Q: What if I’ve never roleplayed before?
A: Perfect — you’re exactly who we’re looking for! We’ll help you learn the ropes, and you’ll be writing Star Trek adventures in no time.

Q: Can I make my character related to a famous Trek hero?
A: We’d prefer original characters to keep the focus on our story. But if your character is inspired by a certain starship captain or engineer, go for it. Just no “Captain Picard’s secret cousin twice removed.”

Q: What if my character dies in the story?
A: Don’t worry — death in Star Trek is rarely permanent. You could come back as a transporter clone, parallel universe version, or mysterious alien energy being. (Or you can just roll up a new character.)

Q: How serious is the game?
A: We take the storytelling seriously, but not ourselves. Expect action, drama, and diplomacy — but also humor, camaraderie, and the occasional holodeck disaster.
